How to Get Silky Hair at Home

Several lifestyle factors can cause hair dullness, and in most cases, you can simply observe self-care measures and follow some home remedies to bring back silky hair.

1. Apply an egg mask


Eggs are among the most nutritious foods on the planet. Eggs are a source of lutein, which helps keep skin hydrated and firm. It also promotes the natural oils that help keep you looking radiant. I have already mentioned  about health and beauty benefits of egg in other post.

Egg masks are among the most used home remedies, and their use to achieve shiny, smooth hair is supported by scientific studies.

Egg yolks contain hair growth peptides and help improve the overall health of hair. (1) Moreover, the fatty acid content of eggs helps nourish and moisturize hair, making it shiny.

How to use :

  1. Mix 2 tbsp of coconut, olive, or vitamin E oil with 2 eggs and ½ cup of yogurt or honey. You can also use egg-based mayonnaise if you are out of eggs.
  2. Wet your hair and massage this mixture on the scalp and hair.
  3. Rinse after 30 minutes with cold water and shampoo your hair as usual.

 Natural Hair Conditioner: Yogurt is rich in nourishing proteins and has excellent conditioning properties that help reduce the frizz and make the hair smooth, lustrous, and silky. The moisturizing properties of yogurt help in hydrating the scalp and hair strands and improve their strength and shine.

Step 1: In a bowl, mix 1 cup of Yogurt, 2 tablespoons of Olive Oil and 4 drops of Lavender Essential Oil.

Step 2: Using a brush, apply this paste along the length of your hair.

Step 3: Cover your hair with a shower cap for 20 minutes.

Step 4: Rinse with shampoo and cold water.

Step 1: Scoop out the gel from an Aloe Vera Leaf into a bowl and blend it till it achieves a smooth consistency.

Step 2: Dilute the gel with 2 tablespoons of water.

Step 3: Now, apply this solution on your hair with a brush and let it sit for 30 minutes.

Step 4: Rinse with cold water.

4. Wash with apple cider vinegar or beer

Washing the hair with beer or apple cider vinegar (ACV) to improve its smoothness and shine is based on anecdotal evidence rather than scientific studies.

The protein hop in beers is suggested to promote hair growth(6) Both beer and ACV help condition the hair and make it shiny.

How to use:

  1. Mix ACV or beer with cold water.
  2. Apply the mixture to shampooed hair and scalp.
  3. Rinse after a few minute

5. Use Banana Paste for Silky Hair

  • Blend all the ingredients and make it as a smooth paste with a creamy consistency.
  • Apply on your hair, leave there for 30 minutes.
  • Wash off well using a mild shampoo.

6. Apply Onion Juice to Get Silky Hair

What you need

  • Large Onion – 1no
  • LavaLavenderential oil – few drops

How to use

  • Mix onion juice with lavender oil.
  • Apply the solution onto your scalp and hair strands.
  • Massage gently and leave for 15-20 minutes.
  • Wash off with a mild sulphate free shampoo.
  • Apply twice a week.

7. Avocado Hair Mask for Silky Hair


Avocado is best to treat dry hair. Avocado helps to rejuvenate your damaged hair that promotes healthy hair strands. The natural oils present on the avocado provides deep hydration to your hair.

What you need

  • Ripe avocado – 1no
  • Coconut oil – 2 tablespoon

How to use

  • Mash the avocado completely without any lumps.
  • Add coconut oil and combine well.
  • Apply the mask from scalp to the tip of the hair.
  • Apply a shower cap and wait for 30 minutes.
  • Wash off with cool water.

8. Milk and Honey

  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Honey – 2 tablespoon

  • Mix milk and honey well.
  • Warm this mixture so that honey dissolves completely.
  • Apply the mixture to your hair.
  • Wait for 20 minutes, later wash off.

9. Amla Juice Mask to Get Silky Hair

Amla has been used since the old days to treat premature greying of hair strands. The high content of Vitamin C present in the Amla helps to maintain the natural shine and texture of your hair.

Amla juice gives enough vitamins and antioxidants to your scalp to promote hair growth.

What you need

  • Amla (gooseberry) – 8 to10 nos
  • Water – 1 cup

How to use:

  • Cut the gooseberries into small pieces and put them into a blender.
  • Add 1 cup of water and blend well.
  • Extract and strain the juice.
  • Apply all over the hair. Massage well.
  • Wash off after one hour or keep overnight and wash in the morning.

10.Honey and Curd hair mask : 

What you need :

1. Honey : 2 tsp. (you can also increase or decrease you quantity according to your hair size)

How to use :

  • Take out a bowl add curd and honey to the bowl.
  •  Mix it well 
  • Apply all over your scalp and hair and massage well
  •  Wash your hair after an hour
